Jury Research Services Supervisor Carey Hand is an integral member of IMS Legal Strategies’ Litigation Consulting team and oversees several key components of our jury research services.
Carey helps find the ideal facility for IMS’s jury research projects, while maintaining a strong focus on cost control. She is adept at managing projects in a wide range of venues, from market research facilities and hotels in metropolitan areas to convention halls and recreational centers in rural communities. Her calm under fire personality ensures that projects run smoothly—even when the unexpected occurs.
Carey also oversees the recruiting process, working with the team to find jury participants who match the demographics, employment status, and characteristics of those likely to appear at trial. Unlike other firms who often recruit the unemployed or “professional” focus group participants, our recruiting practices allow you to generalize your jury research results to the actual population of jurors who may hear your case, ensuring you achieve reliable results.
Finally, Carey manages IMS’s social media team to provide detailed profiles of potential jurors’ online presence. This information is often key during jury selections in which counsel are afforded little opportunity to question the jurors, or—as is common in high-profile litigation—when jurors fail to disclose the full extent of their anti-corporate biases.
Prior to entering the jury consulting field in 2010, Carey worked for several years in the hospitality industry, where she built a foundation in event planning, logistics, and operations. She earned her BS in hospitality management and event management from Endicott College (Beverly, MA) and currently resides in Cleveland, OH. In her spare time, Carey enjoys spending time with family, friends, and especially her dog, Cooper, as well as cheering on the Cleveland Guardians and working on DIY projects.
