For more than three decades, Jason Barnes, Senior Strategy Advisor, has been developing winning trial strategies for leading attorneys in Am Law 200 firms and Fortune 500 corporate legal departments throughout the nation. During that time span, he also founded a successful trial consulting firm, went on to align that firm with other leading trial service organizations, and helped the field of trial graphics progress alongside changing technologies. In addition to providing attorneys with strategy insights and creating powerful courtroom imagery, Jason has overseen war rooms for trials across the United States. He is particularly familiar with the workings of the federal courts in the Eastern District of Texas, the International Trade Commission, and the Texas state court system. Jason’s practice areas include a broad range of civil and criminal matters with a focus on intellectual property, products liability, and business torts actions.
Jason was founding partner of Barnes & Roberts, a trial consulting firm headquartered in Dallas that operated for 20 years prior to merger with The Focal Point. Its trial service capabilities were enhanced once again in 2019 when The Focal Point was acquired by IMS. Today the full name of the company is IMS Consulting & Expert Services to reflect the fact that it offers a broad range of world-class services to support lawyers from the beginning to the end of trial, including integrated strategy, expert witness, jury consulting, trial graphics, and trial presentation services.
Jason was also formerly owner of PageLine Productions, a company that produced video evidence for litigation, and early in his career was a senior designer for Trial Arts. It was in that latter role that Jason was introduced to the fledgling digital graphics industry. He went on to pioneer the new wave of courtroom exhibition techniques by transforming hand-made displays into electronic evidence presentations. During much of his career, Jason also served as associate editor of the online publication, The Jury Expert.
Jason is a long-time member of the American Society of Trial Consultants, delivers CLE presentations, and has provided guest lectures at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and the Practicing Law Institute’s Patent Litigation forum. He studied computer science at Texas A&M before obtaining a degree in graphic design. In addition to his professional trial skills, Jason is an accomplished outdoor photographer. At least once a year, he packs a camera, guitar, and two weeks of food into his jeep before disappearing into the forest, mountains, or desert by himself.
